Applications

The Airbus story is only the beginning for high-memory, passive RFID tags. Smart solutions with intelligent tags will find their way quickly into many industries in asset management and other business areas.

Other Industries

Aviation is a pioneer, but intelligent RFID will be driven across all industries whenever multiple parties must interact with tagged assets. We believe the aviation solution will be repeated in many business scenarios. Other industries can borrow the ATA-defined standards and architecture to build solutions that serve their own needs.

Tego’s intelligent RFID can transform business in situations where:

  • Network connectivity is not guaranteed
  • Database access is not allowed because of IT security
  • Assets are widely distributed, e.g. oil & gas industries
  • Information must be stored over a long asset lifetime
  • Parts pass through multiple organizations
  • Sensor monitoring or display is needed

Opportunities exist in every large vertical market. For example, in life sciences and testing two large multinational companies have interest in using TegoTags because of their ability to withstand Gamma sterilization on vials that hold DNA samples. There are many other opportunities in the healthcare/medical space, where high-value, long-lived assets abound.

Other applications evidenced in Tego’s initial pipeline include oil/gas exploration, military vehicle and materiel maintenance, utility pole configurations and railroad maintenance history. Utility companies face great difficulty in disaster recovery when crews from around the nation converge on a scene to restore infrastructure. Coordinating repairs and organizing parts to reconfigure every downed utility pole is a monumental effort. By tagging utility poles with permanent line/pole maintenance records, a crew sent from any distant region can simply scan a downed pole and know exactly what they need to replace it.

Solutions typically generate significant value by enabling business improvements in areas including:

  • In-field cycle time
  • Asset lifecycle costs
  • Record accuracy
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Authentication / security

Enabling users to access information on the spot without depending on back-end computer systems, these are just a few examples of the way businesses may transform the way they manage and interact with assets. For the first time, large amounts of information may be tied directly to any type of thing that needs to be known here and now.
